Adobe Media Lab Desk

When Adobe moved into a new building in San Francisco their growing Media Lab division got a new room and it needed a new desk.  Charged with creating engaging content for users of all of Adobe’s suite of products, the media team live streams demos and answers customers questions from 10am to 3pm every day (wow – that’s a lot of video content!) The guest experts and media team were working on a make shift table that did nothing to hide wires or organize the tech mess created.

Adobe’s team lead, Leigh, contacted me inspired by the Design Trifecta AV unit and it’s clean wire organization.  Passionate about working with a local company Adobe partnered with us for Henry to draft and design their new desks.  Working with Adobe’s existing space, and discussing the medial lab’s needs, Henry used Fusion 360 to 3D engineer a desk with pass throughs for wires at every possible angle.  Also, creating a unique front lip to hide laptop wires so viewers see the content not the mess.

“Henry thought of everything, the wire holes are in every shelf, going horizontally, and vertically so I could wire between the two desks easily.” – Francisco, Media Lab Director

Leigh and Henry agreed on Ash wood, a mix of solid and ply wood , finished in Rubio Monocoat Super White.  The result fits with the rest of Adobe’s new office furniture style and looks great on the daily live casts.

“The finish was really important to us, we have a lot of different people using the desk so we needed something durable in a matte finish that won’t reflect our lighting.  As the desk gets worn it’s good to know we can easily re-finishing parts without moving the table out of the space.”  – Leigh, Team Lead

Henry choose heavy duty black casters that are able to easily adjust and lock into place. The two desks were built separately and Henry incorporated clamps to join the two tables together seamlessly – there is no gap – you can’t even fit a piece of paper between these two desks.

Sara worked with Leigh and Adobe to set up Design Trifecta in Adobe’s supplier and payments systems, (no unusual for large global companies) that can be time consuming for a traditional woodworker. We are excited to be part of Adobe’s supplier network.

The Adobe Media Lab team was a delight to work, they trusted Henry to design them something thoughtful and the results look (and function) perfectly.  This could be our favorite build to date. seemless front
